Hi guys,
just got a new Poweredge 2650 and need to get her on the Domain and convert it for Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 She'll be our dedicated backup server, and I am totally clueless for a server name. Our normal naming convention was Rocky & Bullwinkle Show characters, but we're out of them.

Any suggestions for a bad-arse backup server name?

Thanks gang, I just want something taht will last past when I leave this place :D

Heheh see, now that's got deep meaning!

I was thinking of doing something deep as well, like name it Juvenile, because it Backs Dat Ass Up :D

Our old one was 'ArcServe'
Our new one is 'ArcServed'

We name machines by primary function.

Time to switch to George of the Jungle. I suggest Super Chicken or Ape as the name of your backup server. :D

I've always been fond of descriptive machine names such as 'backup'.

If it's not going to be the primary name, you should at least have a DNS entry with that name. It's a lot easier to rember that the mailserver is mail.some.org than it is to remember if Boris or Natasha is the mail server.

Also, having descriptive aliases simplifies things when it comes time to replace a server. When Rocky finally becomes obsolete & you replace it with Homer, all you need to do is redirect the alias to Homer & wait a while for the DNS changes to propogate.
