I was just told that the guy who handles backups quit and I'm needed to get some files back. I've used Backup Exec a little years ago, but it looks nothing like 9.1 (what we're currently running). From what I can tell he did full backups once a month and differential daily. (so far so good right?) Then...he copies the backup files, before the next monthly backup, to tape. I can't figure out how to get the information back from these. For some reason it thinks those are the current full monthly backup. Things from 5 months back come up with last months date. I tried moving the files in place of the current backup and that helps a little. It can see them and says it runs the inventory ok. Unfortunately when I try to catalog any of the files, it eventually says that one hasn't been inventoried. Anyone have any advice/suggestions? Thanks.

P.S. Oh and advice on a good backup strategy would be great :)
