Backup Exec problem

Im using backup exec 10D and backing up to Sata drives. For the last few weeks I've had problems where the nightly job doesn't run and in the morning the job monitor will have a yellow question mark over the job and the status says loading media.

So before I leave work when I check my drive caddy is in and the job status says it's scheduled with no problem but in the morning the job never ran and the status says loading media. Does this sound like a hardware problem with the drive caddy's or a backup exec glitch?

There is an option somewhere in backup exec to automatically answer that question mark with a certian answer. We had it for a while were the person that was to put in the tape just forgot to put in the tape so I set it up to tell it no every time we forgot to put in the tape so it would mark the job as missed. It proved the person was an idiot and we weren't getting good backups, but I know there is an option.. Let me dig

How have you got the B2D setup? To a name or drive letter? Make sure the drive letter is the same as B2D options and in my computer. We had an issue like this when the drives were rotated and not holding their drive number assigned so we had to revert back to using the standard 'E' drive letter which worked.

The wizard to hit yes on the drive error wont work because hitting yes just makes the error come back a few seconds later. It shouldn't be a drive letter problem the company that makes the drive caddys high rely provides a program that renames the drive letter based on hard drive serial #. Backup exec always thinks it's backing up to drive X even though it's a different hard drive every day.

If you are swapping drives daily be sure to use Removable Backup to Disk Folders as the device. Also, I would delete your Changer.cfg and Folder.cfg files and then run and Inventory operation by right-clicking on the device. These files can occasionally get corrupted but the Inventory operation should re-create them. If the Inventory runs successfully these a good chance the backup will run fine. Hope that helps! - HRGuys
