HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.D HDS721010DLE630 (0F13180) 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive ( What I also have as an HHD in the PC.)

I will also download and try Easeus Todo Backup before buying a program.

I want to backup a mirror image and then incremental.

Question: I am thinking i just need to format the drive, do I also need to partition it?, I didn't partition my internal drive when i put it together. I use the Crucial M4 for OS, updates and other utilities. I am hoping this will be a mostly "plug and play" backup. Also, I 'm not considering any on-line/Cloud programs at this time.

Thanks!

Is it safe to assume you're running a legal copy of windows 7? If it is, have you considered using the built in backup? I'd use clonezilla to make an image, then the built in backup (at work, I have two separate HDDs for backup, one travels, one stays on site).

Yes, I have a legal copy, WIN 7 64bit home edition OEM. I can use that program also, but have heard the there is better. i will probably try it out anyway. The program I listed above seems to have very good reviews on several sites and it is also free.

Maybe an easier question. Any tips or recommendations for setting up an external drive with the components I've listed?

Thanks
