Backup a Raid array?

I am planning a new system which supports SATA-300 with an external SATA connection. Will it work to have two SATA-300 drives at 250 gigs each for a total of 500 gigs and then a third drive – a 400 gig SATA-150 which mounts on the outside of the case for a Norton Ghost backup. The M/B is an ASUS A8N-SLI-Premium and the external connector has a molex connector for power plus a SATA connection.
I would like to use the external drive as a backup which I can store offsite.
BTW – the CPU will be an AMD x2-3800+
 
I would stay far far away from RAID0, but to each is own. I'm not one to buy into hypes. Ghost will handle the back ups for you just fine.
 
Dumb question - why not put the 2x250gb inside the case and the 400gb Ghost drive external?

RAID would be less likely to have anything done to it internally too - loose power cord, SATA cable come unplugged, etc. I like RAID 0 personally, but I wouldn't put it external.
 
That is actually what I meant - the two raid drives internal and the 400 gig on the outside. THe other option would be to get a removable drive bay that I could use to take the 400gig out and store offsite.
 
I like drive trays better if when you want the speed of the SATA connection. Stringing a SATA cable or using a SATA pass-thru on a slot on the back plate can be really fritzy depending on how good the external drive enclosure is. I have a pass-thru on my system and gave up on it because it was less than reliable dropping connection every once in a while and large file transfers (say files over 100mb in size) would bog the system terribly even though it should have run like an internal SATA drive.

Plus it sounds like the 400gb backup drive would be just a bare drive haning there. At least with a drive tray system it's in something more duable than an anti-static bag when out of the case.
