I'm installing Win7 soon and want to backup all my old emails & contacts in Windows Mail.

What is the best way to accomplish this and import them into win 7?

Sorry I know this is noobish, I've just never been able to do it in the past properly and can't lose some of the ones I have now.

Looks like a fairly straightforward process... a lot like OE. Be sure to read through a few of the comments at the bottom of the page just to be aware of possible problems.

Ok so I was exporting my emails to my 8gb usb drive.

While it was exporting, it came up with an error saying the files could be corrupt, or there might not be enough space at the specified location.

The latter isn't true cause I have like 4gb free.

So I decided to export it to my hard drive, then copy it to my usb drive.

Well the export to the hard drive was successful, without the previous error message.

The exported folder was only like 3mb.

When I tried to copy the exported folder from my hdd to my usb drive I got:
"Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?
The file blahblahblah.eml has properties that cannot be copied to the new location."

Do this for all? (209 found)

So anyone know why I wouldn't be able to copy/export these emails to my usb flash drive?

The error you got the second time is normal, just have it copy the file without the properties.

Someone related... this is why I love IMAP. I will never have to deal with local emails again...
