Backing up F@H

I'm just wondering, can I just copy over the whole directory for F@H? I'm getting antsy to use fold-serv.

You don't have to back up anything....

Just let the current work unit finish, then kill the directory.

The foldserver will automatically d/l the work units and cores that it needs.
Check the docs on unhappy_mage's page for the foldserver. Make sure you set it up correctly or you might end up folding for "rogue_jedi" (that is the name that unhappy_mage and his brother rogue_jedi fold under). ;)

Not that the mage would do something like that.

To just finish a w/u - stop the client with "ctrl-c" that way it'll save it's current work.
Do the "-configonly" thing and cut on the switch to force it to ask before d/l'd the next WU.

Then let it run until it's done.

Luck!

I'm slowly getting the parts for my little "cellery patch" together.
Then I'll be using the foldserver too!!

If you install on another machine, it should be able to autodetect the hardware change. It should boot fine on more modern machines, but I know there are some issues with older stuff.

Basically, put the hard drive in another machine and install to that, and then move it back to the box you want to use fold-server on. It'll help if you put it in the same master/primary position on both, that keeps it from getting confused.

HTH.

Edit: and nobody has made that mistake yet ;)

Could it be because I have a P233 that it keeps on rebooting?

Or do you really need 2 NICs?

It's probably the 233 part that does it; I have a p2-era Celeron that does (almost) the same thing. You don't need 2 NICs on the machine you install it on, but the one you use it will definitely need 2. Your network becomes subdivided into "the fold-server clients" and "the rest", and one NIC goes to each. If you need another NIC, let me know; I can ship you one.

Oh, and the best way to switch is to stop FAH and start it manually with the -oneunit flag set. That way you'll finish the current WU and not get another one.

So, how exactly do I have to set it up? Have one NIC go to the network and the other go into the other computers?

The only other computers I have laying around is one P60 and the other is an 8086 laptop

I've got 2 NICs laying around. I had a Cyrix MII CPU (300mhz). Unfortunatlly, my brother got curios and droped it. The sad thing is, he was like, 20.
