I want to have a computer I can use solely for recording tv, and I was wondering if my old Dell Dimension 3000 would be enough. It has a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor and 1 gig of ram. At most I would need to record two HD streams at the same time.

Yeah, that should be fine just for recording depending on the source.

What source will you have?

Don't expect it to actually play anything back though.

I plan on using ATSC over the air and analog cable as my sources. I don't plan on ever using it to play anything, I just want a cheap computer I can leave at home to record shows.

It'll be fine for that. My old Sagetv server was a P4 3ghz with a gig of ram and it could handle 4 HD Homerun QAM streams without an I issue.
