Back up solution for "offsite"(but not cloud storage).

I keep a spare desktop at my mom's house loaded with Server 2008 R2 and I was wondering what you guys used for backing up files and images and things like that. I live in a house with some roommates and I want to back up remotely from where I live to my mom's house and I also want to back up the Server 2008 R2 OS. So essentially it is off site but it's not technically "cloud storage". Are there any good applications for server 2008 that support cross network(and across the internet)file back ups and things like that? Does System Center DPM do this? The only other thing I can think of is Acronis.

Ideally I'd like to have something that isn't subscription based and if it has a price I'd rather buy it once and call it my own to set up and what not. That does look kinda neat though...
