Greetings!

I've been itching to put together a new rig and was curious how folks here feel about the newer gaming barebones from Shuttle? I'm particularly interested in the SX58H7 and SP45H7. I built a AMD based Shuttle for my fiancé about a year ago and she loves it. It's a great system and I'm a bit envious.

Anyone have experience with Shuttle's Water Cooling option? Can Shuttles OC well? I wouldn't be looking for a major OC, but a modest OC would be nice.

If I go with the SX58, I'll have to get a new CPU and RAM. If I go with the SP45, I would pretty much keep everything. See sig below.

I'd stick with the mATX. Maybe get a smaller case, but stay away from Shuttle. I have a P35 based Shuttle that's constant trouble (weird USB issues, occasional failure to boot, but of course it's out of warranty). I've also dealt with a number of others and they all tended to die in 2 years or so, even with light office use. HDDs and PSUs run hot, and that leads to a variety of problems. The main thing for me is that if the PSU dies (and it's really more a question of when than if) you're stuck with a difficult to find, overpriced and generally low quality form-factor and no real options.

If the motherboard dies you're generally stuck getting a new board and case... and a quality mATX case is not always cheap, as I'm sure you realize.
 
You make and excellent point! If I stick with mATX, have any case suggestions. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Antec Mini, but I need a smaller footprint now. We just moved and I have a smaller desk.
 
The problem with MATX is not the size of the board, but the chassis. In Shuttle's vision, every inch matters. It's too bad they don't sell DTX boards and chassis seperately.
 
Stick w/ mATX or mITX. If you want really small w/ standard parts go w/ mITX. With LianLi's upcoming PC-Q08, you'll get a tiny motherboard, standard size ATX PSU, and dual slot video card compatibility all in a relatively small case.

I used to be a Shuttle junkie, but got tired of having to buy a new case and motherboard (Shuttle barebone) everytime I wanted to upgrade just the motherboard.
