I just got so sick of my overclocked X2 3800+ that I decided to buy a Celeron D and the cheapest motherboard I could find. Now this is smoothness. :cool: (BTW, Fry's B&M has ECS 915P-A motherboards on clearance for $19.90)

Actually I decided to dump my X2 due to the big price drop coming in a couple of weeks. Last week some sucker paid me $310 for a used X2 3800+ ($230 from Dell back in January) and AN8-SLI motherboard ($42 @ monarch clearance). :D I prefer the steady price declines instead of these sharp drops.

Next it's either going to be a 965 + cheap Pentium D/Cedar Mill Celeron or 965 + E6600, depending on Conroe availability.

This Celeron D isn't that bad. I had to reinstall Windows and upgraded Ubuntu and both are running fine speed-wise.
 
I like my Celeron D, in almost every aspect its just as snappy as its p4 counterpart in everyday computing, the cache cut isnt nearly as big of a deal compared to the northwood celerons.

Nice job on selling the parts. I would go with the Conroe setup. I have never seen Intel have bad availiblity on there new line of processors.
 
lol. welcome to the winning team ;) . E6600 is the way to go, netburst processors aren't worth it if you've seen the benchies (which i'm assuming you have). Have fun with that celly D
 
So you're saying that your Celeron D is "smoother" than an overclocked X2 3800? :D

Anyhow, it's good that you got some money well you could for the X2. Grab a low/mid end Conroe when they're available.

Yeah, because Intel has the Smooth Core Technology in every chip! :p
 
Is 965 worth going with, or going instead with a 975 system? I know that with Broadwater comes the improved MCH to make use of FMA, but will using a 975 instead hurt memory performance in any way?

Because I've been debating whether to go with a nice 975 motherboard and a E6600/6700, or to buy a much cheaper 965 system and use that until motherboards based on RD600 come out. Suggestions?
 
Welcome back to the light my son. Even tho that was a dark deed on selling those AMD parts at way inflated prices in terms of there price performance.
