Its been awhile since i've dedicated some machines to folding and I don't have much power, but I fired up a few this week.

I flipped the switch on:
PDC T3400
Core2Duo 6400
Athlon X2 4400
Athlon X2 4050e
Celeron 1.7ghz
P4 2.4ghz
PS3

All dual cores are running multiple instances and all machines run it 24x7. I hope to be turning on an i7-860 box before the year ends.

It's not much nowadays, but I hope it helps! I cracked into the top 10,000 overall which is mildy cool!

You might want to try the SMP client on some of the duel core chips. Probably get 2-4x the ppd outa them.

Excuse my ignorance but is that any different than running two instances of the console/cmd client as a service?
 
Yes it is. I've run the SMP client on my 4400+ (headless using Notfreds) and it put out close to 5x what I was getting with two console clients.

even the terrible windows client will get better than 2 standard clients

word of advice tho, if power bills are an issue, the 2 single core rigs are not going to be cost effective by far
 
Alright got MPICH2 running on the PDC machine. I don't think i can switch many machines to it since the user accounts do not require a password and the service install seems shaky.

If you're running Windows SMP clients, you should be aware of the following:

First, when needing to restart the client or system, type Ctrl-C and then wait before doing anything. How long to wait depends on the system, WU and possibly other factors I'm unaware of. Open Task Manager and check to determine if any cores are still seeing F@H-related processes running. If so, wait for these processes to terminate. It could take several minutes. If you restart the system or restart the client before this happens, you run a high risk of losing the WU. In the past, I have lost countless WUs before I understood this. It's one of the pitfalls to running Win SMP.

Second, if your network cuts off for any reason or you unplug your cable, you may have the client halt processing the WU. It can appear to still be running but unless you look at a CPU activity monitor, you might overlook that it's stalled. That's another Win SMP pitfall you have to be aware of.
