Hello,

I've got some more resources that have hit my desk this morning. Two HS22V w/ Dual X5650!

I'm excited to put these to good use. Should put my previous HS22s in their place.

So I got one of the boxen up on SLES and I'm not getting bigadv units. After a bit of reading it seems Windows is the way to go now for bigadv? Really?

Yeah, bigadv is turned off for Linux ATM...has been now for probably almost 2 months, no idea on when it will be turned back on.

that's fine with me. we'll see how well w2k3 handles 24 threads

Awesome! Welcome back. Was thinking recently when you would make a comeback. As Zero mentioned, -bigadv has been removed from Linux for the time being. You can run it in Windows with the latest SMP client. Just add the -bigadv flag and configure the client for big packets. You should be good to go.

Got my first box reimaged with win2k3. Initial HFM estimation is 76466 PPD.

Wow, once you get both boxes running, you'll likely hit the #1 PPD spot on the team!

I might have a 2 week windows near the end of the mo nth/early sept where I'll have 14 more hosts. I'll have to "burn them in" before deploying vSphere..

Gasp...what specs??

Good grief. Please say they are similar to or exactly the same as the one thats giving you 77k per day. That little burst of ppd might be enough to hold off EVGA by itself for a couple weeks longer!

Unfortunately they are the 4core version, but still 16 2.67GHz threads per host aint nothing the scuff at lol.

second box up, this time with w2k8. It'll be interesting to see the performance difference.

....Never seen that many thread "squares" in my life. [gasp]

Damn thats impressive. Hope the PPD graph looks as good

i love the memory count - 48gb installed, 24 cores flat out and only using 3Gb of RAM!!

Haha! That is going to be sweet as I can't wait to see your numbers. As you know, we are all bunkering down and trying to hold off the other team as long as we can. Do you know if your rig is overclockable? If so, it would be sweet.

No, unfortunately blades don't have the ability to overclock. I wouldn't anyway as I don't want to have to explain why a $20K blade melted into a 150K chassis lol

My second box has been going for a while but the numbers are weak:

Blade 1: P2685 (R1, C15, G15) TPF 18:36 76774PPD
Blade 2: P2684 (R6, C20, G8) TPF 25:06 48975PPD

I'm sure only half of that or less is being used for folding. My 24-core box only shows something like 1.5GB of RAM for the FahCore_A3.exe Process.

Go Dephcon

You are fine. P2684's are terrible compared to the other P268x's out there. 49K ppd is a very nice number for them.

Wow, I've never seen a second row of CPU charts in the window....

Fold on!

Welcome back! We def need the huge PPD increases all you "big guns" have been able to throw up recently..It almost makes me cry to struggle to get 18~20K PPD out of one box...

Ahh, I didn't realize you were running blades. That is still sweet as all of us dream of being about to borg something like that. How do you keep something like that cooled down within the space constraints?

That is the beauty of this team as we have the big heavy hitters up in the top spots, and there are those like us who work with what we have and give it all we have. When I first started, the folks here helped me out even though I was originally only making about 400 ppd running the classic uniprocessor client on my laptop. They help everyone out no matter how much production your rig makes. That's why i'm proud to be part of this team as we all do it for the right reasons.

I had some issues getting the drivers installed on the w2k3 box yesterday, trying the IBM UpdateXpress on the w2k8 box and I'm hoping that it'll work and the drivers/firmware will increase performance.

I'll be happy with a handful for a week or 2. Nice hardware there, Dephcon. Good luck with the "deployment"

I agree the Team Spirit here is much better then my old Team (anandtech), and that is why I switched over..I had accumulated over 170K points using the classic client back then:eek:..It took forever lol...

When am I going to see that 980X break 4Ghz? If your worried about cooling I am going to an internal WC setup and my Koolance Exos would work great on it:D

That 980x is currently at the hospital. I have a blown motherboard according to Micro Center. My last 3 builds have all used Gigabyte motherboards, so this makes me a bit uneasy as I love Gigabyte and hope this is just an outlier. While they were running memory diagnostics, they said the ram slot shorted out and blew out all 3 ram modules. It is still under their 30 day warranty so they have replaced everything for me free of charge.

I am an air cooling type of person and just don't want to risk water cooling. I may consider the Corsair H70 when it comes out, but only because it is maintenance free. I just don't believe liquids should be present near computer hardware. I am a wuss.

I don't think you are for being leery of WC. I too avoid WC but mostly because of the complexity. When you run dual-processor systems exclusively like I do, WC can get very complex and very expensive. For a small amount of additional clock frequency that most standard dual CPU systems will alow the owner, it just doesn't seem reasonable to me. I get my money's worth with decent HSFs and the other mods I perform for increased cooling efficiency.

Since this is the beginning of the month, I was wondering if you had any updates on the possible new hosts you had mentioned earlier?
