Well... finally got the goods and updated the old box... Specs at the bottom

Old system:
100_0052.jpg

Intel D975XBX Rev 302 (re-worked, Conroe WILL NOT run on unmodified Rev 302 975 board)
100_0055.jpg

Video Cards... Old and Busted (850XT Platinum) and the New Hottness (X1900XTX):
100_0057.jpg

Installed on tray:
100_0058.jpg

Tray with video card and sound card:
100_0060.jpg

In the chassis:
100_0062.jpg

Outside shot (got rid of the LCD. Never used it anyway, was just to do it)
100_0063.jpg

CPU-Z Shots (The Proc is reading a bit funky there, though it's typical with ES chips)
Conroe1.jpg

Conroe2.jpg

Conroe3.jpg

Ok... now the specs.

Old System:
Asus 925XE
3.73/1066 EE
2GB DDR2/667
850XT PE
2 74GB Raptors, RAID0
1 500GB Segate

New System:
Intel D975XBX
Conroe 2.93/1066
2GB DDR2/667
X1900XTX
2 Raptors (didn't RAID0 it this time, only because I get annoyed at having to tear the case apart to attach a floppy drive for the F6 drivers)
1 500GB Segate Drive

I must say that I am impressed so far. It's a very fast system. I haven't really tried overclocking, kind of a pain in the ass with this board, though I'm sure I'm not doing something right. Never been much on overclocking anyway.... so it's probably just user error. :D Just thought you guys would like to see it up and running.

 I HATE YOU.... jk. Lol, Your old system is faster than the system I am getting  . Although I went a bit weaker on the cpu and motherboard so I could move up in the world later.

old busted x850 xt... lol, I am envious I would be happy with that video card, is that chip a stock 2.93 then. If so

For more contructive criticism What type of ram do you have I know its ddr667.

Where the hell did you get a conroe? Sorry but just kinda shocking to see one of these in the hands of a non-reviewer/tweaker.

Yea, the chip is 2.93 stock @1066, which should put it at 3.33/1333 FSB if I could figure out how to overclock this damn board. It should be an XE proc, think they just locked them at 1066 FSB for testing purposes.

As for the memory, they are just 512MB Micron DIMMs.

I think you have a 2.93 stock

2930/266=11
11x333=3663

You want to use idk. Change a few setting according to xtremesystems. I don't have the board so I couldn't do it myself. You could then lock the fsb at 1333 If I remember correctly.

Here is the link on how to use idk
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=96648
for badaxe
You should know its xe by it having unlocked multipliers correct?

Nice set up congrats . nice gpu. nice sound card. GREAT CPU. nice lian li case.

Whats with the cheap memory- just kidding

LOL... yea, it's called freebie. :D Really though... I've used that memory for well over a year on my old system and it hasn't let me down. They are pretty good chips.

Dare I ask, how'd you rework the 975X?

There were 4 - 0402 Resistors and 1 - 0603 resistor that had to be added (the pads were unpopulated). Honestly though... I don't really feel too comfortable giving out instructions on that, though i know they are out there on the net. If you look around I'm sure you can find them. It's a VERY easy re-work as long as you know how to solder and have access to the parts.

Extreme systems has that info posted . and you can even buy the parts from the poster to do the mods.

Hay fella why no bench marks yet you afraid of fame or are you also under nda

Haven't really had the time, ran 3Dmark is all. I ended up having to re-install windows yesterday after I ended up with like 150 trojans and crashed my system. I got a bit too excited yesterday and started playing around before running windows update. LOL. Even at that though I'm not sure I'm going to post too many benchmarks. Don't think that'd be kosher. :D

wow!!!amazing set up...enjoy it...dont forget to bench for us first though ;) :p

His instructions are wrong, might still work with his, but on his picture (Component #1 should be 680 Ohm 5% NOT 1k ohm)

I will make sure to forward this info. Thanks Poncho!

Trojons! What you porning? The shame of it all. ;)

While I will admit to doing my fair share of porning :D, I actually got them from a tech site. Can't recall which one now though. Second I went to it my anti-virus went apeshit. Couldn't clean them all. LOL... funny part is I don't get this from porn sites cause I tread with caution when I go looking for porn. :D

Conroe for the win....

I sure hope they put the new Conroe XEs in new Intel Powermacs <3 And I hope they can finagle some way to put 2 in one box :D

Sweet rig and I'd never ask you to benchmark it, yet:D

Minus the Window, my Black Al Case is very similar.

RE: RAID 0 - There are 4 brands of USB floppys that can be used during XP setup. You could also slipstream, but that's a PITA

Do you think I could get a Conroe since my parents work at Intel? How does that work? I think I would want to wait until a mobo comes out that I don't have to mod though...

LOL...if you have to ask, then probably not. :D Let me just say this.... it's all about who you know. :D

as for the USB floppy.... yea, I know I should probably pick one up. I'm just lazy and a procrastinator. I usually put it off until I'm ready to do a re-install and then am too lazy to go pick one up. :D Really though... don't notice much difference without it, of course I knew that would be the case. RAID 0 is just "cooler" :D

Will there be any i965 boards with SLI or Crossfire in the works. Or even those from 3rd parties that you might have heard about?

I'm sure nVidia will come out with an nForce board that will run conroe.... eventually. I've heard that nForce5 will support conroe, but don't hold me to that. I don't follow nVidia too much. As for 965 and crossfire... I'm really not sure. I haven't seen any Dual Graphics boards.... but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. :eek:pinion alert: I would imagine that you'll see them, the DG market is just too big any more, but that they'll come a bit later with more "performance" oriented skus of the chipset.

where/how are you guys getting your conroes?

First you have to sell your soul to the devil... then a virgin must be sacrificed.... then a processor will magically appear under your pillow while you sleep at night, brought by this naughty little fairy. :D

My dad works on a server project, I think his job is to see that the server platform is going well, advertise it, and make plans for it... my mom is like the manager for graphics validation... maybe one of them can snatch one out of the labs :)

Although I don't know if Intel would put Conroes in the graphic lab computers...

PS: that was a jk Intel... dont fire my parents :D

how do some people already have conroe? I thought it wasn't supposed to be released til like july or august?

/sigh... re-read the thread. It's all in there.

The motherboard you have is a dual graphics motherboard.
