Azurues incoming connections...not a port fowarding question...

Hi, I notice if I just start Azureus(newest version),and i'm not not even downloading, I get alot of incoming connections from different IPs off the bat on the port I opened in my router. When I close the program these inbound connections still try to connect for quite a while after the program has been shut down. I don't think i'm being hacked, just curious as to how Azureus works and what it's connecting to or connecting to me if i'm not even downloading anything.
