AXP Barton Core Voltage

I've been running a 2500+ Barton core at the 3200+ stock speeds (11.0x200) for about a year now, unable to get a single mhz more out of it. The whole time I thought I had a 450w antec powersupply and as a result was ruling it out as a limiting factor in my oc.

So I finally got my OCZ 600w powerstream today, and went about my gleeful changeover and re-tried overclocking. My goal was 2500MHz, and I was able to get 11.0x230 for 2535MHz (the multiplier is locked). The voltage to get this thing stable is more than I've ever run before, 1.94V.

Have I gone too far in the voltage setting, severely reducing the life of my processor? At stock voltage it averaged ~39C under load, now its only 3 degrees higher, 42C. If the voltage is too high, I guess I'll have to back it down a bit, just want to hear some other opinions.

 
thats a sick oc for an older barton.
be happy with it, and btw 1.94 volts is alot, but i think its had a good life already
 
Most people draw the line at 2V for a Barton, a number that I agree with. 20% is more than enough for most OC'ing, until you get into extreme cooling. I use that number myself, and had no concerns running mine just under 1.9V 24/7 before I sold it. I would have run it higher, but my CPU was maxxed at 2.4GHz- a locked 2500+, like yours.

nice overclock you got there. 1.95v is a fairly high amount of voltage to feed the processor (if you plan on keeping it a while that is, usually people that feed it that much voltage dont plan on keeping it that long), what kind of cooling are you using? you should see how much voltage 2.4ghz takes, if it needs something like 1.8 or so i would back it down but like the other person said, its lived a good life so you might as well squeeze every bit of performance out of it before upgrading :D
 
Thanks for the replies. As far as the power supply, I did have an antec, but it was only 400w.
I'm currently running a thermalright SLK-800 with an 80cfm fan on it. Passive northbridge cooling, in a CM Stacker case.

My plans on upgrading are pretty far out there, as I dont trust the longevity of the socket 939. I'd like to wait for socket M2, and following the amd roadmap right now, that puts me in a Paris or New Orleans core :)

So I should probably back down to 2400.

 
i also volt at 1.95, however i don't really expect my proc to last for more than a year under those conditions. my absolute limit is 2.0 volts, and that isn't enough to get me any higher.

if it does last longer, then bonus: my sister gets a free proc upgrade when i move over to a64.

if you want your proc to last for a fair while, then stay below 1.9 V.
