For now i would like something a lot more efficient, almost ripple free and can supply the 'cleanest' power to my system (for the soundcard), but later in the year i will be upgrading at least the graphics card the best single GPU card out at the time (september/october) but if the replacement for LGA1366 is out then that too.

I have read a mass amount of reviews on the Corsair AX series and it looks to be the PSU i'm looking for, it's incredible. I'm not going multi-CPU or multi-GPU so 850w is going to be more than enough, that said, for the price (around £155) is there a better PSU i could get?

If you aren't going multi-GPU, then an 850w unit is complete overkill. A 750, or even a 650 would be a much better match.

No kidding, there's absolutely zero need for a 850w if you're not going dual gpu. Anything 650w or so would be more than enough to not only power your system, but keep it around the 50% sweet spot or less, depending on your exact configuration. Even a 550w would generally be plenty. Of which I'd say the Seasonic X-650 is a great AX series sibling.

The 850W will be more than enough i know, was going to get the AX750 but the AX850 is only like £20 more so I may as well. I wouldn't like to go below 750W as this PSU is going to be with me for some time and I can't predict what I'm going to have in 2 years time. This was more of a buy the best of the best PSU not what's sufficient for the load.
Will however checkout the Seasonic X series PSU's, though aren't they pretty much the same?

The AX750 and AX850 are identical to the Seasonic X-760 and X-850.

Where did you read that? Everything I have read states that it is based upon seasonic but not the same unit.

I'm not sure I'd say they're identical, but topology-wise, they're basically the same. There could be minor differences as you'd expected.

IIRC, they upgraded a few components in order to seperate themselves from Seasonic. I have the AX 1200 and it is outstanding.

They're either identical or so close to identical that there are no meaningful differences between them other than aesthetic ones. I would honestly be quite surprised if there are any differences at all. The X-series is Seasonic's flagship platform and it is very unlikely that they would cut any corners that Corsair would not.

i ordered xfx black edition 850w a few days ago, dunno if u can get this in uk but I assume you could. It is a very good quality product and you don't have to pay the premium for corsair branded.

Well one thing I know for sure, the X-760/850 actually came out after the AX series. Who knows what was really upgraded or whatnot when comparing the two. Someone crazy like Paul could verify any actual differences :)

The AX Corsair series uses flat peripheral cables and offers a 7-year warranty. Corsair do not use the same PWM fan as in the Seasonic but they use the same kind of fan regulation. The AX1200 is made by a different vendor since Seasonic X1200 is not quite out yet, maybe a bit later this year.

I was looking at getting the HX1000. Stuff in the sig. plus I want to get to evga gtx 570s superlcoked and then water cool them. I read that the HX1000 is really good.

The Corsairs and Seasonics use the same fans, excluding the AX1200 which is made by a different manufacturer.

I think i'll pass on the Seasonic anywho as the place i buy from do not stock them and neither do the other likely places i'll buy from. I think i'll stick with the AX, it really does look like they've got the "premium" title covered.

A corsair TX650 would be perfect. Anything more than that is overkill.

Not even going to dignify that with a response (other than this :p )
