I have an AX850 PSU that I got in 2012. Over the past few days my PC wouldn't turn on, so I fiddled around with the lead and it worked. Today however, it didn't work and my machine wouldn't turn on at all, I am only running a stock 3930k with 16GB memory and an old HD 4870 with an SDD and one HDD. I have tried a different lead, removing and replacing the cables and I have tried jump starting it, nothing happens when I plug it back in. This is one of the most reliable PSUs on the market, so is the PSU dead and if so what do I need to do?

Also, I am from the UK, I never get power cuts, but I have turned the power off by mistake once or twice.

You may want to measure all the positive voltages with a digital multimeter because when a power supply's fan spins, it means the +5Vstandby is working and the +12V rail is putting out at least 5V - 6V, and the +5V and +3.3V rails could be dead. You could try plugging in a hard or optical disk, and if it spins, then the +5V and +12V rails are within 10% of the correct values. I don't know how to check the +3.3V without a meter.

Nothing happens when I jump it and plug it in, I have plugged in a fan just to make sure, also the PSU is passive under about 450W

best way to confirm is to get a PSU tester, I always have one laying around to test new PSU's that comes in on my new builds.

yeah corsair is good on warranty, even for those of us in the UK - they usually have a new one out to you in a couple of weeks.
