Hi all,

I'm looking into creating custom UV reactive modular cables for my PSU. I've looked at the current 24 pin ATX cable and the wires range from 22 AWG to 16 AWG. The only UV reactive wires I've seen are 18 AWG. Would it be safe to use 18 AWG for the wires that are currently 16 AWG? I know the higher gauge wires should be ok to replace but I'm unsure about the 16 gauge. By the way, I'm keeping the lengths the same. Any advice? Any suggestions or alternatives (besides sleeving)? Thanks!

Based on Wikipedia's handy wire gauge table, I believe it would be safe, although to err on the side of caution, I wouldn't load the PSU too much if I were you.

Thanks Zero82z. That's what I was thinking too. Something's just not sitting right with having to use a higher gauge wire than what Corsair uses. I really wish some one manufactured UV reactive wires in varying gauges...

Another question, I came across a post on one of my searches that suggested painting the stock wires with UV reactive paint. That should be safe, right? The UV paint in question is made to be used inside computer cases and is non-conductive.

Thanks again :)

I have an idea, although I'm not sure how much you'll like it:

For the lower guage cables, run two of those UV cables instead of one for one connection, and connect them at the ends. I'm sure for some of the lower current cables (like molex and SATA connections) you can just use one cable.

Perfect! I think I'll try painting them first and go from there. Now to order a spare set of cables from Corsair and some paint.

Tsumi, I'll try your suggestion if the paint doesn't work. All in all, I'd rather keep the stock cables, but if it looks horrible I'll double up the 16 gauge wires.

Thanks again!
