While you can weigh in on the value of the AVP multiplayer demo here, I did have an unexpected and joyful Eyefinity experience with it. AVP is the first game I have ever started on my personal Eyefinity system (3x1 Dell U2410 in Portrait) that went directly into Eyefinity mode at 3600x1920 resolution. I know AMD has been working closely with the AVP devs on some things such as DX11 tessellation, but it was nice to see Eyefinity "just work" for once without any action needed on my part. With all the eye candy turned on at 3600x1920, the demo was running from 30 to 45 FPS on a 5970. It felt like there was a good bit of optimization to be had as well and I am unsure that "CrossFireX" was pushing both GPUs on the card. Sound off on your Eyefinity and AVP experiences in this thread.

Uhhh....I thought Eyefinity wasn't in the demo, along with DX11

This is one game where I can see Eyefinity give a huge advantage for players, particularly when playing as a Marine in multiplayer. This game is so fast paced that you could blink and an alien or predator would literally be on top of you.

Great that they bothered to implement something like eyefinity that is very limited in the amount of people who can/bother to use it, but dont bother to get 1080p working on most ATI cards. On mine it defaults back to 1080i at 25/30hz.....going from this forum and steams forum, everybody else is getting the same.

I wanted to try it this morning but I couldn't find a match to join. Was really bummed when I saw the no eyefinity in demo message but it's good to hear it's working. Hopefully I can test it out tonight after work.

Looks great, but from what I have seen and from what I got from playing the demo, the game looks kind of broken, and really needed another 3 months of polish and development IMO. Also if you watch these couple of videos here and here and here the Marines seem to be the only one that looks correct and seems to play well, the aliens and the preditors look wonky at best. But they all sure look pretty on eyefinity.

If you're using Catalyst 10.1 then I'd be surprised if the internal crossfire was working with Eyefinity. I haven't found a game yet where it's enabled with 10.1.

P.S. I was also pleasantly surprised with Eyefinity 'just working'. AvP was running at my desktop resolution of 5760x1080 the first time I ran it.

wow you were actually able to get into a game? I uninstalled it out of sheer frustration. It said it supported eyefinity but only in the full version. I'm using landscape but it wasn't working correctly for me. It did extend slightly past the center monitor but not by much. It did say it was running @ 5760x1200 but obviously the view wasn't scaling across the 3 monitors as I'd hoped. I'm waiting for full version reviews to see what's what

Hmmm, a MULTIPLIER demo eh? Doesn't sound too fun! :)

It isn't, unfortunately. Maybe if it was a better map and on a more interesting game mode, but the only option is FFA deathmatch. Blah, boring after one game, at least for games like this which benefit from team play and actual tension. The map looks decent but the movement (all models look like they're skating around) and feel of the weapons isn't that great. The "horde" style mode where humans have to survive an escalating onslaught of aliens sounds way more fun, but well'll see.

Crossing fingers that the final game is good, sticking with the Bad Company 2 Beta for now. :D

Works perfectly at my place, recivers, tv's, monitors, samsung, LG, Fujitsu Siemens, Toshiba, Onkyo, Denon, Benq.
All have worked flawlessy at my end.

However i ran into a issue with 5770 and a gigabyte motherboard, big mouse pointer, youtube videos was immensly pixelated when in full screen.

Update bios:
Problem solved... WTF? (on the motherboard) i didnt know that mobo bioses could fuck up a mouse pointer....

Given the screen shots the only point I see it's a bigger screen. there's no gain in peripheral vision.

Having played the demo with eyefinity I agree. The map is too claustrophobic for eyefintiy to be of real use. Plus the HUD items are not centered, way too far on either sides. It was a PITA while playing as a marine with the motion sensor going crazy but I couldn't really see it since it was all the way to the far left. Hopefully this is fixed in the full version.

I honestly dont know why it's struggling with frame rate even at that resolution, there is absolutely nothing in the level, it's so painfully basic.

I do not want to change the topic but whats happening with thin bezel lcds & prices?

To bad I'd rather poke out an eye than use spanning for games. I'd go mad with the bezels inbetween the screens. :(

I'm hoping for a huge curved widescreen monitor when they get oleds up and running properly! :D

I think Eyefinity is a cool new feature that they came up with to make PC gaming unique but there is just one thing that kills it for me in a big way.

The goddam bezel's are in the way and right on your face, personnaly I find it just annoying and just kills the immersion of the game.

I really see no point in this unless you could get screens with no bezels and at a lower price than what would cost to put something like this together today. I would just get a 30" monitor instead for that price.

Good idea but not practical right now.

Christ I go nuts if I have 1 dead pixel on my screen somewhere nevermind 2 big ass bars screwing up my view.

Dumbest idea ever, until they can get rid of the bezels.
Just another way to get more $$ out of you for video cards and monitors.

Don't be a sucker and fall for this garbage.

Obviously, eyefinity is not for those suckers that are easily distracted.

EyeFinity has worked perfectly in this demo.

The demo itself is not really exciting, reminds me alot of Prey. But the Alien ceiling walking deal is pretty slick......I had no problems finding a game.

But once you use Eyefinity the bezel deal isn't distracting.
In Catalyst 10.2 or 10.3 there will be bezel management included. It's already available in a beta driver at Guru3D.

I've pretty much been able to use Eyefinity in any game I've chosen to play, and honestly I'll never go back to single monitors......unless someone comes up with one of those giant curved things I've seen rumored.

wait til the games released.. the demo is an insanely early build of the game.. no where near what the finished product will be since the finished product will have dedicated servers + dx11 support.. which are 2 big things.. when i saw that i didnt really go into the demo expecting it to be very close to the actual game..

or for suckers that dont have the balls to go try it out themselves to see what its like instead of judging it off of a few video's they saw on youtube..

Kyle, you have the same phone as my brother and his wife. Also, nice screens. Going to have to check it out later today when my monitors come in.

What's the point of having the 3 monitors if the FOV is the same as if you have one monitor? You end up with big black bezels in the way. Other than higher resolution, what's the big deal?

In games that correctly support eyefinity, the FOV is increased by nearly double. Giving the extra FOV not only helps in spotting enemies quicker, but really adds to the immersion.

Watching a video of eyefinity does not do it justice. The increased distance from the monitors make it like you're supposed to focus on all 3 monitors at the same time. The true purpose is to focus on the middle monitor while the sides adds extra peripheral vision, in theory you're never supposed to look at the side monitors. Unfortunately HUDs in many games are locked so some information is stuck on the side screens and sometimes stretched (ATM Borderlands is the best example I can think of for bad HUD with eyefinity)

When focused on the middle screen only, the bezels become insignificant. Your mind will piece together what that space would take up even if they're not perfectly lined up. This is similar to driving a car and piecing what you see out of the front and side windows.

Most people I've heard complain about bezels have never tried it in person for a significant time, but most that I have heard that have tried it says the bezels do not distract them after 15 minutes or less of gameplay.

Eyefinity comes at a relatively high premium to enjoy it, and it doesnt work for many games. It has a lot going against it, but please stop using the bezel argument if you've never used it before.

I can't help but laugh at all the bezel comments here. I stopped noticing the bezels the first day I played Dirt2 on eyefinity.

If you don't have Eyefinity, or haven't seen it live.....why badmouth it???

It's the same as badmouthing automobiles having never driven.

Using the automobile further.....think of the screen bezel like you do the "A" pillar on your windshield......while driving, you focus on the center field of vision, you still can "see" out the side window, but do you/are you bothered by the A pillar???? I'd say you don't even recognize it.....same with the bezel....I don't even pay them any attention now.

Yes, both of those videos have wider than normal FOVs. The AVP images on the front page show a standard 90-130 degree FOV. What's the benefit in this case?

Well he's playing in portrait mode so the benefit there would be just a far higher resolution than a single monitor. With the screens flipped the other way he would have the far larger fov, and again a far higher res.

No, 16:10 monitors in 3x portrait still have a wider FOV than 16:9, just not by as drastic an amount. More importantly, it has significantly more pixels than 2560x1600 ;)

Maybe it's me but I don't find it exciting to play a game with gaps between each screen. It seems like something to do just to say you can do it.

3x 16:10 monitors is 1.875:1 which is negligibly wider than the 1.777:1 than 16:9 is, or even the 1.6:1 of a single 16:10 monitor. The FOV is independent of screen width though, isn't it? I mean, can't the engine display any FOV the user chooses? Also, what's the benefit of playing as in the front page pictures in portrait mode if the slightly wider FOV is cut across the bezels? I'm not interested in the argument of "you don't notice the bezels". If my 2560x1600 monitor is displaying, say, 130 degrees of FOV without vertical slices, why should I play at 3xPortrait with the bezels if my FOV hasn't changed all that much?

Still wider, though ;)

Yes and no. The FOV is supposed to be calculated based off of your AR. You can use different FOVs if you desire, but most games flag this as "cheating" and it won't look right.

Why would you want to play with 3x portrait like on the front page? I don't know as I don't have Eyefinity set up, but I assume its because Kyle likes it like that. Many people around here have posted that they prefer landscape for racing, and portrait for shooting. As for the advantage over your 30in, 3x portrait is both larger and has more pixels. I want to get Eyefinity simply because I already run dual monitors and I utterly hate a single monitor system. I was already planning on getting 2x quality 24in IPS panels to replace my 22in and 19in TN panels - I might as well get a 3rd for gaming purposes.

But that still doesn't make sense. The arguments here are that peripheral vision is established through the side two monitors. However, if it's only "slightly wider" on 3xportrait mode, you're seeing *less* in the middle monitor because what would be normally on the front monitor is now on the side monitors, separated by a bezel. In reality, you're losing visual space in your front monitor compared to a single 16:10 monitor (no matter how large the monitor). In landscape mode, sure, there's a lot more displayed image because it's adding the wider FOV to the left and the right of what would normally be seen. In Portrait, you're actually losing what's in front of you as it's being put on the side monitors.
