Greetings..

Recently purchased and installed a 3TB drive not realizing that you have to use GPT in order to user the whole thing. When I first set it up at a MBR drive it split into two partitions (one at 2TB and one for around 756GB).

This drive is going to be used for auxillary storage so it wont need to boot with an OS.

After reading about GPT it seems people have suffered data loss and headaches once they pass the 2TB mark with data.

Any suggestions on how to use this drive. Can I just use MBR and make two partitions to keep it simple. Should I not worry about it and use GPT?

Thanks for taking my call, I'll hang up and listen.

Use GPT. You don't need to boot from it, so the limitations Microsoft Windows imposes on drives formatted with GPT do not apply.

If you have an up to date OS (not being XP) GPT is fine. Backups are what you need to worry less.
