avoiding pressure build up in loop

You should be ok as long as the reservoir or t-line is at the intake side of the pump.

If the reservoir is water tight, but not air tight that may be good to let pressurising air out (air can expand, not water). The reservoir should be the point where all pressures = 0 for all intensive purposes, and thus should be the last in the loop just before the pumps intake.
