Recently my MSI ATI Radeon 9800 pro began to develop a checkboard pattern of artifacts. It has never been overclocked or mishandled. I RMAed it and after a considerable amount of time I got it back with no explanation. I reformated after installing it only to find that they must have simply opened my package, set it on a shelf for a few weeks and then mailed it back to me unfixed. It has the exact same problems!
 
Maybe it's not the video card. Have you tried the video card in another computer?

Sounds like borked memory. They really should have just replaced it!
 
maybe it is your drivers.... and are you positive you got the exact same one back? methinks they should all look identical for identical models.... And if you got the same box back and it was marked in a way you could identify it? if you try rmaing some thing make a mark on your item so you know if it is sent back....Also just because you got the same box back doesnt mean that they didnt replace the card inside...I rmaed an abit motherboard i got the same box back plus a amd xp ready sticker on it and a 1.1 version of a abit kt7a-raid i sent in a 1.0 version....
 
It was not the same box, I just don't think they did anything to the card. When I got it back, I reformated the computer and installed latest video drivers. I don't get artifacts if I use an older video card.
 
I would marm it with a small black dot somewhere inconspicuous and then RMA it again, demanding that it be replaced. If they send it back and it has the mark you put on it then you know they are just sneding the same card back. There is also the possiblity that they sent you a refurbished card that happened to have the same problem, but thats quite a stretch IMO.
 
I am on the phone with them right now they did send back same card. I had marked it but can't find the dots now lol. They are claiming they tested it fine, idiots. Now I am on hold. again. I am going to try make them send a new one.

Well then maybe there's something wrong with YOUR system. Did you try the card in a different system? If you didn't test it at all on another machine, then you have no right to be complaining.

What if MSI were to send you a brand new card, sealed right from the box, and you get the same issue? What are you going to do then? Have another tantrum?
 
I don't have another computer nor do I know anyone who does that would let me use theirs :( All I know is that the world is allways trying to screw me over. First it was my cabel internet that went out. After a week of fighting it and buying a new modem and talking for hours to tech support I had to give up and get DSL. Now that I had DSL the video card dies and it seems it will be an equally hard fight. All I know for sure is that other video cards do not have the problem in my system. My drivers are fully up to date. He had me screw with bios settings and it did not help. If the whole world really is against me and you guys are all just laughing, just let me know so I can end it now.

Get them told. they can't mess you around like this. There's no way that is due to anything other than hardware failure. If you have to lie and say that you tried it in a friend's machine in order to get them to send you a new card, then so be it.

I haven't experienced that yet, but that pattern looks a lot like the pictures people posted here from cards with bad memory.

Can anybody remember the video card of the guy that posted farcry pics with the same problem?
