Is there any reason to avoid DVD media branded by Staples, Office Depot, and etc.?
This will be my first set that I am buying.
 
Depends on who makes it, but that would be hard to determine without buying them and testing a disc. Personally I stick with Fujifilms which are made by Taiyo Yuden and it's great media.
 
i have the compusa 2x dvd-r's, and they burn fine at 4X with my nec 1300a
