I've been using Pinnacle Studio 8 for over 2 years. I've had no problems with it, despite all of the complaints about it. I've made dozens of DVDs with menus with no out-of-sync audio problems. I'm a very happy Pinnacle customer.

But... I need something better. Pinnacle Studio 9 has an additional video track and a few other features. But, the problems seem to be even worse with version 9. I'm scared to take a risk and buy Studio 9 and have it suck.

So, since Avid has announced that they are acquiring Pinnacle Systems, should I wait to see if Avid will release a new $99 program to take the place of Pinnacle Studio, or at least fix the bugs? Or should I just jump in and get Avid Xpress DV and start using a professional program?

I record about 6 dances competitions each year and sell DVDs to our parents at the dance studio. Plus I do some other types of documentary filmmaking, make demo and promo videos for dancers, etc. Pinnacle Studio has worked great, but I need something better.

Has anyone used Avid Xpress? Or should I wait to see the fruits of the Avid/Pinnacle merger?
