AVG launching web based advertisment?

I leave my computer on at night, mainly to do things like virus scans and the like. Lately, every couple of days I have been coming back to a browser window with a website advertising AVG 8 (I am running AVG7.5 Free). I noticed a new advertisement for it in the Test Center/Control Center, which leads me to believe that AVG itself is causing this activity. I have not been able to find anything on google about this, however (possibly due to combining "AVG" and "advertisement" in one search term). Has anyone esle been experiencing this, or should I start thinking virus?
