Here at work we are trying/starting to switch over to AVG. They got the AVG Anti-virus SBS version, runs on a server, blah blah. My question is does anyone have any experience using AVG off a server and ghosting an install on a client machine. To restate:

Create a ghost image for our employee machines with avg installed from the server. Use that ghost image on another machine.

We're not sure what'll happen with the AVG and don't have any testing abilities right now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Sorry I don't have any experience with it other than using the personal, free version at home. Let me know what you think. Good luck. We have symantec antivirus server at work, but their av is getting so bloated and we would like to keep our options open.

it needs to be deployed from the central server or I think the database will get very confused.. I Used AVG business and it was probably one of the worst A/V I have ever used in a business setup. Kaspersky or NOD32 are much better IMO.

Sorry to bump this thread, but can you list the reasons you haven't liked it? I manage my parents small business network and they've been using the AVG SBS Edition for the last several years without incident. It's time to renew and I'm inclined to do so since it's worked flawlessly and I haven't had to touch their network antivirus-wise in literally years (and it does get quite a bit of virus traffic through exchange). I looked around and every other vendor appears to charge more for their SBS edition as well, so I'm basically having a hard time finding a reason not to continue using it.

I would stick with it, even if only to justify the cost. I don't know how NOD32 stacks up price wise though. We are still using it and the ghosting is just fine. Once on the domain the client and server sync up perfectly.

Are you by chance using their anti-spam product? I have the option of SBS Edition or SBS Internet Security Edition which basically just adds anti-spam for all machines for an extra $92. Normally I'd say screw it, but my Mom seriously can't stand spam and complains to me non-stop about it. :p

No, I don't really administer the avg server or our exchange server, but I don't believe we have the avg anti-spam. There are all sorts of blocklists you can get exchange though.
