I have an all-in-one from a friend and the video card is bad.

It's an MXM beast.... I bought this..... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/261077996490?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 to replace it. It even has the same model number, etc... BUT it was from an Acer. The problem I am having is that the vid card works like a charm when I hook an external monitor to the DVI port, but won't light up the built-in monitor. If I put their bad one back in, it WILL light it up.

Any ideas peeps??
 
It probably has an ever so slightly different rom on the card expecting a different internal screen? I wonder if you can dump from the old one and flash to the new one ... or as the listing says, the computer's bios might not initialize the card without a pc bios update.

Start Windows with an external screen. Open up the nv control panel. I bet you can then enable the "dead" internal screen. But it won't stick across reboots, iirc.

Okay, I've tried fixing one of these at my shop and have some insight to impart upon you.

1.) The only cards that work with the Averatec are ones made for it. Even if you flash one that says its the same board with the proper bios, it will not work. There is an electrical difference in the output. It isn't MXM compliant.

2.) No other cards will work either, so trying to upgrade to a 9500GT or some other MX will not work either. Again, some kind of electrical difference.

3.) What we ended up doing was reflowing the bad card. Heatgunned it for acouple minutes and bingo. Right back to life.

Those Averatecs suck ass.
