Average Radeon 4870 overclocks?

I have dual radeon 4870s (512mb sapphire version) and was just wondering how far people are being able to overclock their cards. I try to use the ATI auto-tune but it bumps the clocks up so high and it is unstable.

My old HD 4870 didn't OC for crap. Our average OC's are honestly not going to help you with yours. Only way to find out is to pull 1 card out of your system and OC them one at a time. Then once you've found the max OC for each card, back the core down about 20mhz and the mem about 25mhz ( 50mhz effective ) and flash those speeds onto each card then you should be good to go.
 
795 is a base line for every 4870..

that is 45Mhz increase, it doesn't do shit..

with voltage add, it goes up to 850 stable, beyond that it is out of control..

HD 4870s are known to be pathetic oc'ers. Just an architecture limitation at that point...unless you want to ln2 them and feed some insane voltage.

I remember reading about 4870 hard vmods over at XS - people were running into trouble trying to push much over 1.35v through the core.
As to the how.....there's a thread about doing it through RivaTuner here
 
My card is only stable at 790MHz Core, and 4GHz RAM, they're pathettic overclockers, but isn't a limitation of the architecture perse, is it's manufacturing process limitation which is pushed to the limits with the HD 4870, otherwise, the HD 4890 couldn't reach the 1Ghz mark which is currently reaching.
 
my sapphire 4870 1GB with that custom heatpipe cooler, running at 790mhz at core and 990mhz at memory. can go upto 800mhz without artifacting but gpu performance decreases, so staying at 790mhz.
 
gpu 800-830 stock volt ,seems to be bout what they hit if you fix the fan spinn up.
all 4 of mine hit 820 core

816/1164 (using RivaTuner) is about as far as I can go to be 3DMark Vantage/Crysis stable on my 1GB 4870. The HR-03 GT keeps temps as low as 38C idle and just over 60 load w/120mm 1300RPM fan. I have yet to venture into messing with the voltage.

my asus dk runs stock at 815mhz... i can get it 850 with no problems. over that its not very stable.
 
My Asus Dark Knights clock quite well. Both my cards (1 DK TOP 512mb, 1 1gb DK) will run stable @ 825+ and have hit 870 on the TOP version and was running 24/7 @ 850. Guessing ASUS just binned some better parts.
