Not only does Avatar have the record for the highest first-day Blu-ray sales, the movie is well on it’s way to breaking the record for Blu-ray piracy too.

That's a rate that "surpasses all previous Blu-ray titles," putting "Avatar" on a collision course with the unwanted title (well, among Hollywood industry types, anyway) of "most pirated Blu-ray film to date," according to TorrentFreak.

How do they know that its the most pirated movie or on track to be the most pirated?

I knew that once they got done getting all the free press for being a record breaking success for Blu-ray sales they would start bitching how they could of sold more then already selling twice as many as the last big hit if it wasn't for those darn pirates. STFU MPAA!

Great, now they are going to claim billions in lost revenue from piracy.

whats amusing is i wonder how many people downloaded avatar thinking they were getting the movie and they really get a virus infected porno :D

I have to add this, in half a year they are already planning a Ultimate Edition with extended scenes and extras and next year a 3D Edition, there is a reason this is going to become one of the most pirated movies, its one of the biggest scams. I would of never bought Watchmen Director's Cut if I would of known about the Ultimate Edition and I sure as hell am not going to buy the regular editions of Lord of the Rings. Nerd rage is a bitch and a half!

Pretty sure they announced the Ultimate Edition of Watchmen long before the Dictror's Cut came out. I sure knew about it before picking up th Director's Cut. Didn't care though as I wanted the movie right then and there. Still need to pick up the Ultimate Edition at some point.

I know and I am still kicking myself for it. I went off of what was being said during the making of the movie when the director said they were planning on a director's cut with Black Freighter back in and I didn't hear anything else (was in heaven). With Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson said they were doing extended editions. I should of read up on it rather then just sitting their excited about Blu-ray release. I gave my Director's Cut to my friend, at least he enjoys it.

I can under stand 2 editions, I mean some want the theatrical for what ever reason, but they are dragging it out to the limits with this one. I will rent Avatar on netflix, but I refuse to buy this release.

eh, why is this news. popular titles are popular. there is no surprise here. if it sucked nobody would bother.

Depending on the extra features I might grab the version coming later this year. Either that or wait and see what they're going to do with the 3D release.

Wow Avatar could have made 5 billion dollars if it weren't for those pesky pirates :p

Don't worry, the internet will step up to the plate and successfully convince themselves that piracy doesn't negatively affect sales at all.

It evens out.

I didn't even really like the movie. Grats to they who made the movie though. Seems they worked hard to produce it..

Walmart had it for $20 blu-ray plus regular DVD on the same box. That's what they should do with blu-rays.

I wonder how many of the downloads are people who bought the movie but it won't play in their player thanks to shitty DRM implementation. Regardless, we'll get to hear from the MPAA all about how terribly sad this was and how little Jimmy went without Christmas because Avatar only brought in a million-billion instead of a billion-billion.

I think that the lack of any special features and that an extended special edition is slated for november could be a contributing factor. I love Avatar and want to buy the film but its the first film i've actually wanted to see the special features for since the Alien films. Hence why i've held off buying it yet.

TPB expert: doesn’t surprise me  note.. seeeed people seeeeeeeeed

Probably would have helped if the damn discs worked in the first place! Copy protection FTL!

QFT

Once again we have a case with the latest super DRM that screws over legit reviews but doesn't even slow down pirates.

MPAA continues to train a whole generation that if you want a copy that you can trust you get it from the "pirates" because the MPAA has a history of screwing over the paying customer.

Not only that but your friendly neighborhood pirate, removes any annoyances like noskip warnings, just click and instant movie. Plus you can get it in any resolution from 480p to 1080p, any size from 700MB to 38 GB.

so you know about the 38GB one. I heard Diamond has a 45GB one :D

which is all wrong to even know about but a co-worker mentioned it to his friend.

Wasn't the point of BlueRay to stop piracy :D
Double fail with legit owners getting denied access as well :D:D:D:D

It does to some degree....There's not many Blu-rays to be downloaded before hitting bandwidth caps!

Exactly this however it just means I download them when it's not peak time XD so I can download all month at full throttle but get a cap at 5-10PM which does suck.

I didn't see it till it popped up online -- im really glad I didn't see it in theaters. Everyone I know raved about it, "you gotta see it in imax" blah blah blah

I have a hard enough time coughing up 10 bucks for a REGULAR ticket, much less an Imax one. Technically it's quite an achievement, story wise? I've seen better. I give it a "meh"
