I am planing to buy a new PC soon. It will be an Intel Core 2 Duo. It will be used for photo editing. I don't plan games.

Has anyone used AVA Diect? I am also looking at Puget.

AVA's business model is structured around giving you an insane amount of component options. This is not always a good thing, but if that's your interest, they certainly cater to that.

Puget is going to offer fewer component choices, but will be able to better support the hardware. Puget is also a much smaller company with a much more personalized experience. You can call them up on the phone and they'll put most anything together for you.

We haven't done an AVA system yet in our evaluation program, but they're on the list.

You may also consider one of the Tier I's - Gateway would be our recommendation. You can find a Core 2 system with a light graphics solution and save a ton of money over going with most boutiques - especially if you have a need for a nice widescreen LCD, which will come standard with most Tier I builds. However, your support mileage is going to vary.

I've bought two Asus laptops from AVA direct, no problems ordering or having them shipped. Both laptops have run perfectly so no comments on their support but Asus will be the tech support anyway.
