Hello,

I was looking at replacing my Audigy 2 ZS with an Auzentech Xplosion, my question is, is this a good sound card? Would I notice a difference in sound quality with the Xplosion? I am a heavy gamer, so good sound in games and music is a must. Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA

Brandon

For games I would suggest you to buy X-Fi but if you want the DTS/DD encoding feature, I think that an Oxygen HD based card is better than the X-Plosion. Oxygen HD chip is newer so it has more feature and will have a better driver support than the older chip on X-Plosion.

I've been hearing some pretty terrible things about them, is it really a good idea to go X-Fi?

How so? Why would it be better, and do you know which cards use this chip?

I have all three cards, X-Plosion, X-Fi and X-Meridian which uses the Oxygen HD chip. Oxygen HD chip has all the features on X-Plosion and more(128 voices instead of 64, Dolby Headphone and etc), I had some stability issues with X-Plosion before and all the problems are now gone with Oxygen HD card. Oxygen HD chip is a newer chip compared to the chip on X-Plosion. If you want to know which cards use the Oxygen HD chip, you can read the first post of my X-Meridian thread, there are some cards listed there.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably get the X-Meridian instead if my Raptor sells =P

I would really recommend X-Fi for a heavy gamer but it is not a first choice for me because I don't play much games anymore and I really like my X-Meridian much more than my X-Fi for musics. Btw if you just want to use the digital connection, other Oxygen HD cards are actually cheaper.

I dunno know how to even hook up my speakers digitally =| They are some Logitech Z-640's. I guess I'll look in to X-Fi, but I was wanting something balanced because I looooooveee music. Good sound quality for music is a must, I guess anything will be better than the Audigy 2, music already sounds great on it IMO.

Actually you might like the sound from games more on Audigy 2 than X-Meridian because of EAX effects. X-Meridian only supports EAX up to 2.0, Audigy 2 up to 4.0(I can't remember correctly) and X-Fi supports up to 5.0. For musics, even X-Fi doesn't sound as good as X-Meridian to me.

I was considering THIS, what do you think?

BTW, the Z-640 speakers are not a digital ready speaker system. They only accept analog connection. Enjoy your card.;)
