In Vista I'm having a problem where, on occasion, I get squeals/static out of my speakers for a second and then I lose all audio.

I am able to go into device manager and disable then Prelude and then re-enable it and audio is restored. Anyone had a similar issue or any ideas?

its been well known that the x-fi drivers from creative have problems like this in vista. the prelude uses creative's drivers but are modified somewhat by auzentech and auzentech seems to be trying to fix bugs in the drivers so who knows.

such problems are usually blamed to one of following:
- the quality of sound card components
- PCI bandwidth issues

The second cause is far more popular then the first one. It could be a sound card driver, a chipset driver, some sort of hardware conflict that results in multiple devices clogging the PCI bus. Make sure the onboard audio is switched off in bios. Try the card in another slot.
Until PCI Express sound cards arrive these things will always happen..

Here we go. Since I posted this already, Im going to give the full LINK

These issues are found with OPTICAL connection to Sony STR-DG710 amplifier. These problems apply ONLY for Windows Vista.

I've tried with and without the 4GB RAM Fix which did not help a thing.

Naturally I've tried cleaning connections and re-attaching the card and numerous driver reinstalls. Won't help a thing.

System:

E6750
GA-P35C-DS3R
4GB RAM
8800 GTS
Auzentech Prelude
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

1) EAX not working / Gaming mode cannot be used properly

-You will lose sounds in game very soon if you enable EAX. Tested in Bioshock.

-No sound when on gaming mode and you try the X-Fi CMSS-3D --> TEST (Verified to work in Windows XP)

2) Popping/clicking/noise when sounds start

-When 'new' sounds start, you very often hear nothing or the sound only partly. You often hear sort of pop/click instead of the sounds.

This can be prevented by opening any software that plays sound -> set volume to minimum (but not to ZERO!) and play some music / looping wave and all the sounds will play flawlessly. It's clearly an issue in drivers only in Vista which "slows" the system.

-Notice that you can play any "long" audio without any problems, like listening music, playing games (though only in entertainment mode), videos etc.

3) Losing sounds completely randomly

This has happened few times, in Windows XP too though. Few times laser link can be seen, but simply no sounds can be heard. Few times the laser link was gone and there was no signal at all.

I still presume this is a driver issue instead of hardware.

So all gaming must be done in normal entertainment mode, no EAX and in Windows you will hear popping/clicking or you won't hear some of those short waves at all. Randomly (4 times in 2 weeks) you will lose all sounds.

Uh..... my EAX works just fine o_O;

Anyway...

If i turn on foobar to listen to music, then turn on my Medal of Honor Airborne. Then i minimize then turn off music, i still don't have sound in moha :x

My Foobar is using kernel streaming by the way. I switched from audio creation to game mode.

So i had to exit moha. Make sure my music isn't playing, then i start game, and sound works. That is the only real bug i've noticed so far which can easily be avoided :D

EAX works in BioShock. I didn't even have to use Alchemy for it ;) So i am not sure why your saying it is not working for you .....

*newest Auzentech driver, Vista 64 bit, 2gb of ram, Vista pc score 5.3 :D

Well, you can't use Alchemy for Bioshock, that's for sure. :)

Yeah well, Im using SPDIF and EAX won't work properly with Bioshock. I heard sounds for a minute and then they were all gone...

I think I used to have this same issue when I had Vista and an X-Fi. I would pause a movie or music...then when I would resume it, no sound would come out for a couple of seconds...followed by about a second or two of static/squeals (like you mentioned) then no sound at all.
