Automatic vs manual overclocking

I just built a mitx gaming and there is an option on my p8z77-i that i could overclock it automatically. I played with that last night and i got 4.7 ghz of oc out of my 2500k. Im not that happy with the temperature at full load but im happy with the oc result. If i manually oc it to 4.7 ghz will i see better temperature or will the result be the same thing?
 
Probably yes. Drop the vcore a few steps and test it for stability. If it works go lower.
 
if its the same speed I think it's mostly the same. the auto might just make the voltages higher so it ensures stability, so if you manually lower those you may lower temperatures, but I'm not sure
 
My cooling options is pretty much limited with the case i have. Will getting current heatsinks do any better than my current heatsink?
 
A new heatsink will do more for you than anything else. I had an old Zalman CNPS9700 and swapped it for a Prolimatech Megahalems and it cut my temps almost in half. Just an example and definitely a LARGE cooler. It may not fit your case but there are plenty of good options out there that are better than what you have.
 
80c in BF3 probably means you will be around 100c in LinX 100% load stability test from my experience. I would manually play with the offset voltage/LLC to get the voltage at load down.

Asus auto tune OC gave me 4.5GHz at about 1.35V, I've been able to pull it back to just below 1.2V with manual overclocking. It's a useful starting point (and only takes 10min), but go manual from there.

oh really? I've always thought heatsinks are heatsinks. I've always tought that i will do fine with this current heatsink i have. How are those AIO watercooling? Are they any good compare to custom watercooling?

at least 100! It might even have to throttle down it gets so high.
80 playing BF3 is pretty high. :eek:
 
I tried playing bf3 without the cover and it made huge difference temperature department. I manage to bring the temp down to 70 c. Ill play with the voltage on the weekend when i get time.

Yeah that gave me a good laugh too. Lol! I used to be a heavy overclocker back then when athlon 64 was the best. But now im too lazy to overclock and just want to spend more on playing games than OCing. Also this automatic OCing even made me even more lazy.

If you have room for a heatsink that will allow for a push/pull fan configuration it will put to shame what you have now. I've never been a big fan of water cooling. A high end air cooler will match the performance and never leak.

I know everyone here says manual overclocking (and I agree) but the only thing you can likely change on a 2500k is vcore, you probably can't drop it much, and it won't affect your temps much if any.
