automated process to email a text file

the text file is stored locally on a linux box
there's an existing smtp Exchange server on the network. All the email recipients are on the local Exchange domain.
I'm just trying to see is there a reasonably simple way to email the file as an text attachment, either by using some existing app or coding my own that wont get too tricky. Any suggestions would be great.

You just code some quick script (dunno if you have php, perl, or python interpreters installed) that would take about all of 5 minutes.

I think you could do it with a simple bash script, ssmtp and cron.
