Hey,

Is there a program that will auto identify and add the correct tags to a CD after ripping it? I have a bunch of CD's I want to convert to MP3. I came across across freedb but apparently its a dead project :(. Will WMP 11 or Media Center on Vista do this accurately for me?

Any ideas?

I just use Exact Audio Copy, which if I remember uses freedb servers to get CD information. Freedb is not dead.

If you use EAC, this is a guide (kind of) to setting up EAC to use the LAME MP3 encoder with tagging. You should probably read additional guides if you haven't used EAC before.

Alternatively, there is also musicbrainz.org, which provides the same functionality as freedb. I think CDex uses musicbrainz.

well i configured EAC except I can't sync with the freedb server, none of the servers respond. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong?

Configure EAC to hit a mirror, it appears the main one it tries to contact is down:

at.freedb.org
au.freedb.org
bg.freedb.org
ca.freedb.org
es.freedb.org
fi.freedb.org
lu.freedb.org
no.freedb.org
uk.freedb.org
us.freedb.org

thanks, ill try it when i get home :)

EDIT:

When trying to add the address I put:
http://us.freedb.org and even http://us.freedb.org:80

just says invalid address all the time. I also tried all the other servers and none work. Tried all this on another computer in another location to make sure its not my network.

yeah i was able to find the entire freedb database somewhere and downloaded it (500ish MB). Works fine, thanks for the info.

Hey Chicken,
where did you find the database download mate? I've tried the official site but the FTP and HTTP mirrors are down :(
