Ok, been trying to get my retro gaming on for a bit now.
So I have Diamond Monster MX300, a Aureal SuperQuad 2500 and a XR-385 (DB60XG wavetable clone) under windows 98SE.
Does anyone have official user manuals for these or even other vortex 2 cards?
I'm using what I think were the last reference drivers available 2.048.
I seem to have conflicting issues on how to use the card with the vortex 2. I'm being told I need to set up both control panel> multimedia > midi > AU8830 MPU-401. Also the A3D control panel > Midi > AU8830 MPU-401 instead of AU8830 Wavetable. This is supposed to pass midi over to the XR-385 wavetable card.
So doing this I cannot even get midi's to play with sound from Windows Media Player. Then I've also tried Duke Nukem 3D and the only sound I can get is under SoundBlaster for FX and music but cannot get anything from the General Midi or WaveBlaster which I thought should work. Even under ZDoom with Doom II wad loaded up I get nothing using the MPU-401 Settings.
Am I being told the wrong settings or maybe have a bad XR-385 clone card? I've messaged the guy on ebay and awaiting a response but don't expect much of an answer.
System build currently:
Windows 98SE Fullversion
Pentium III-S 1.4GHz
Soyo TISU (i815EP B-Step) Motherboard
Crucial CL2 PC133 2x 256MB SDRAM
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
D-Link 10/100 NIC
Monster MX300 + XR-385 (have tried the SQ2500 with same result)
Western Digital 160GB Caviar Blue EIDE 7200RPM
NEC Hi-Speed USB PCI card
Samsung CDRW 52x w/8mb cache.
