hi guys,

just wondering if there was a way i could get an A3D 2.0 enabled card to work on windows 7 (64bit??)

i remember when i used to play cs on my Sound Blaster Live! card (A3D 1.0 support??), the game sounded far better for positioning enemies than a X-Meridian or Titanium HD card...

i really would like to experience positioning sound like this again

what would be the best way to do it? if i had to go back to previous versions of windows i might be willing to revert to XP but im not sure how it would fair with Battlefield 3 or 4

ive heard it might be compatible with linux?

also, as im from uk, ive no idea where ill be able to find an A3D 2.0 card??

sorry about the vague topic.. i really dont know much about the drivers needed or compatible cards, i just want the best positional experience possible (without the ridiculous reverb or modern cards)

kind regards

Look up creative alchemy. There are equivalent drivers for several cards.

You will not get driver support after the initial XP release. This tech is great but so old that I doubt that you could ever get it to work with the BF series.

The Creative Zx or ZxR will give you very accurate and direct sound reproduction imo. I get a very natural feel to the sound when I play without using any effects.

i maybe have to build a cheap dedicated box for CS1.6 with Wind98SE then !! :)

i am currently using onboard sound from my 78LMTUSB3 motherboard, but also have an old 1st gen Auzentech X-Meridian lying around... would this give me better positional sound?

also, would the Creatives you mentioned be an improvement on the X-Meridian card?

i was also hoping to upgrade my headphones which are breaking as we speak.. i have the Sony MDR-SA3000, which provide decent levels of detail and sound stage, but was hoping for the AD700 or K 702 for next level gaming quality

Its purchase will also provide financial support for Creative Labs' future patent trolling endeavors, which is what killed Aureal and its yet-to-be-matched technologies.

That REALLY did suck. Too bad it is the best available gaming sound.

I don't know enough specifics, but I thought the way Windows 7 handles audio eliminated the need and support for specific chipset tech (ie: Aureal, EAX, etc.)? So any current game (written with Win7 audio support) will have the same positional audio effects on ANY surround chipset supported by Win7. The only real difference in chipsets at this point, is audio quality and legacy support.

I only bring it up as the OP keeps referencing "positional audio".
