Is there a online group or some place that I can try headphones? I'd like to try the TH-900s before I buy but I live in the middle of nowhere.

Yea it's the same story here, always have to buy without testing first and in average it's probably a matter of months when I finally make up my mind about it and by then I know like everything there is to know about the headphone because I've read like all the reviews, forums, intepreted all the measurements and all user comments on various sites like amazon etc. and then tried to interpret whether it will fit my personal tastes/needs/preferences. 
Having a similar intepretation/taste etc like someone like Tyll definitely helps too.
I just feel a bit uneasy if having to return a headphone as I wouldn't myself like to recieve an open box headphone (if not advertised as such) either. Sometimes depending on where I bought it etc I may just sell it with slight loss instead.
