Audio through GPU HDMI port?

I'm going to swap an existing build into an HTPC case and put in a new GPU. (Leaning towards an R9 290.) It'll be plugged into a Denon 3312CI. I'd like to use a single cable connection from the HTPC to the Denon; an hdmi cable.

Will I be able to get audio through that cable (from the R9 290 output) directly into the Denon AVR? (If not, I can always figure something else out. The Denon has a plethora of connection options...)

If the R9 290 cannot pass audio (automatically) through the hdmi output, does any other card?

This is a basic question, but, well, I still have to ask.

Thanks,

Ken

Edited to add: I know that most hdmi outputs carry audio as well as video. I just want to make sure that my computer audio can go out through the R9 290.

Yes most GPUs now will do audio over HDMI. It will also bitstream DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.

Got a HDMI from R9 290 to my Harmon Kardon(25Ft Cable).TV works great and sound.
Also have optical setup to Z5500 speakers, just need to switch from realtek to AMD HDMI sound to watch movies and stuff.

Yes, I do this from my 290, it always works over HDMI out.
I use it for 5.1 audio.

Some drivers have disabled audio over DVI -> HDMI unless you have an AMD cable or AMD converter.
Although this appears to be working again now. I moaned like a bitch about it, perhaps they heard :)
Its worth being aware in case it is an accident and they do it again.
(DVI to HDMI audio should work with any DVI to HDMI cable you can buy)

I use an R290 with HDMI (25ft) to my Denon 1613 Receiver for gaming, movies and music. When I disable the monitor output the sound is routed to normal PC speakers, when I enable the monitor output the sound automatically routes to the Denon and video out to the TV.

I have a 290 in my htpc works great to the Sony receiver I have. There is sometimes some hdmi handshaking issues on wake up but I haven't noticed that much in the last couple of drivers from AMD. Out of curiosity why are you stuffing a 290 in a htpc? It seams a little over kill unless you are doing some heavy gaming on your tv.
