Okay... hopefully you guys can help me with this one! I am trying to use my computer speakers to power sound through two different items: my pc and my xbox. For the Xbox, I got a Y-adapter that lets me use the speaker's single input. Is there a product that would let me switch between the two or use both at once? Thanks!!!
 
If you only want one on at a time, a pre amp, receiver, or switch may work.

If you actually want to listen to two or more sources at once, I belive a mixer is what too look at. One that accepts RCA plugs would be ideal.

The back has 3 inputs. Because you will not be using a "phono", you will just make sure its switched to line, for your line level souce... aka x-box, computer, etc.

So, your computer will have something like a 1/8" mini to RCA cable which you connect into your sound card.
The X-box will also need something to connect into RCA.
Connect both to diffrent "line" inputs.
Then connect the "master" output into your speakers. From there you'll be able to control volume and whatnot. Its designed for professional DJ work, but it will do the job for what you are looking for. Remember, this will allow you to eaither have one on at a time, or two on at the same time. A "switch" or "Pre out" will only allow one line source to be played at once.

Oh, just as a heads up, if you do get something, like a mixer, make sure it accepts the correct power for your country. I noticed what I linked to requires the 220-240V power. If you have 120V, make sure it accepts 120V. ^_^
 
I don't think you guys are understanding... I want something cheap. You know how when you connect speakers to a PC how all you do is put it in that one green output? Well I have a Y-cable that gives my Xbox one of those outputs too. All I want to do I be able to make the single cord from my speakers connect to both at once, or be abl to switch between the two.
 
That thign for $15 won't do what I want. Did you even read what I just posted? NOT audio/video. All I need is something that will take my single cord and make it two. thans.
 
ok so you want to take the audio that your xbox puts out and make it come out your pc speakers which are connected to your sound card.... correct?... well its rather simple... connect the audio output of the xbox (RCA jacks) to the line input (usually blue) on your sound card on your computer (3.5mm jack)... turn on that input and turn of the volume and you will have a controlable input on your computer.... you can use the mic input as well though some sound cars mic inputs sound horrible....
 
I don't want to have my pc on to play it the sound from my xbox. I just want to take the one cord that comes from my speakers and turn it into two. Thanks.
 
allright.. well if you want a low cost solution that is it.... otherwise you will need an AB switch which the shack has for not all that much.... if you combine them both together going to your speakers you will blow both the outputs on both your computer and your xbox... so stop bitching.... we have given you every solution that you could possibly have from high to low cost... so buck up and deal with it

As straight to the point as that was, footer is true. A "cable" should not be used to "join" audio signals. If you wanted you could try solding your own and see if it breaks your speakers, but I highly recommend against it.

If you don't want your computer on (no F@H?), then the switch will be the cheapest solution.... 15$?????? your lucky its not more like 100$ as so many things in the audio world are inflated.
