Hi,

Have bought Komplete 6 and ableton Live 8.

Have setup 2 partitions on the 320GB HDD in my laptop, 1 at 120GB for programs and the other at 150GB for libraries, recordings and media. (There a backup image saved of factory settings on there aswell).

Should i have my music libraries and media on an external drive instead of a partitioned drive??

I don't really understand how 2 partitions on one drive is any more efficient as it is still 1 physical Hard Disk Drive..

Can anyone enlighten me?

Fanx :)

I do that on my laptop just to simplify windows re-installation. Basically just makes it easier you can wipe the windows partition and leave the rest of the data untouched. Zero performance gain to be had.

As far as the libraries are concerned I would keep them on the internal drive for performance reasons but also keep a backup on an external drive.

I'm into audio as well.
I don't remember where exactly as i can't find my notes, but there is a answer to your question in here.
It goes something like you should have 2 harddrives min, because of the heads having to travel further on one hd.I can't remember the exact setup but i was surprised in the advice given for setup. It did make sense though. There are different ideas as to best setup though.
here some answers,hope this helps.
