Heyall, besically I want speakers around my house, downstairs, in the bathroom, kitchen etc... all being controlled from my computer. I want to be able to select what speakers I want to be playing. So I have a couple questions, is there such thing as an receiver that can be inside your computer, then I can run multiple sets of speaker wire around the house. Or should I just hook the computer up to an external receiver? Is there a cheap enough wireless solution? Newbie questions I know, I know nothing of audio though. Any tips/advice appreciated. John.
 
some information that would be helpful...

a) how much are you looking to spend?
b) what type of quality are you looking to get?
c) how many sets of speakers?
d) are any of them going to be in a ht (5.1/7.1 configuration)?
 
I know lots of people have problems with Bose but Bose has a new multiroom system that you can get, the downfall is it's probably 3000 bucks.

Get like somekind of speaker selector for like how many speakers you have and get that much speaker cable and speakers and one big powerful receiver and bam. You could have a multiroom system!

By the way, impossible to actually have it inside your computer unless you might have like 5 sound cards? maybe if there was software but that would mean getting a separate receiver to power each set of speakers in each room... nah...

Someone help this guy out past this point! this is getting to the limit of my knowledge!
 
Okay at most I have 3 sets of speakers, no 5.1 necessary... it's mostly just to play music for int he shower and downstairs for a party. Running wire to the shower is no big deal, downstairs might get tricky, so for that I was wondering at any possible wireless solutions, maybe using wireless internet? But basically I have a limited budget, dont worry about speakers I will try and get them second hand, pawn shop etc... I just need an idea for a receiver, or if there is a way to do it with a soundcard so you don't even need to buy a full out receiver. Thanks, John.
 
limited really doesnt tell us anything. in your opinion limited could be 500 dollars or it could be 200. to recomend something its nice to have a rough estimate of what you are willing/able to spend.
 
Bogen makes some nice multi-amp recievers.... they are a bit pricy though.. they are aimed at industrial apps....

prob your best/cheapest soultion is to get a speaker selector and split up the outputs of your reciever

put a volume control in each room and you should be set....

sound quality wont be the best though.... there are some wireless speakers out they but they run pretty steep.... google it.... and enless you want to drop like 500 bux on a sound card or about 5 grand on crown amps you wont be able to control it from your computer....

as for other wireless solutions your could always get an airport express or something simular to that....
