audio question: "line-in" port

hello. When I run a keyboard into the Line-in port on my soundcard, audio will only play through the left-speaker on my setup. Why does this happen? How can i fix it?
 
the keyboard might have a mono jack. check if it only have one black ring on the jack instead of two.
 
hehe... nevermind.. think i was trying to use a MONO audio cable.. d'oh.
 
same kind of question here. friend was given an audio cable to plug his xm myfi into his sound card. hes only getting sound out of 1 speaker. he possibly only has a mono cable as opposed to stereo cable?

a mono cable plugged into a stereo jack is usually the culprit for sound coming out of only one speaker.
 
the 1 and 2 rings would basically indicate whether the cable is mono or stereo? i never knew such!

yep. the rings seperate the connections. in between each ring is a new speaker connection, with the bottom being ground. hence one vs. two.
