Audio pass through VIVO?

I have the ATI purple component(s-video/RCA?) connector. I have my playstation connected to the purple box; yellow, white, red. The purple box connected to the VIVO port. I've tried a few different players I'm able to get color picture through s-video. I'm not sure how I'm suppose to passthrough sound? I don't think ATI would make an adapter if it wasn't possible. I'm using an X-FI extrememusic if that helps.

Edit: I'm using the Sapphire x1900xt 512...shouldn't matter though, I think all the vivo ports use the same ATI t200 driver. I also have a ticket open with ati...see if they turn out to be helpful or not.

No, you will not audio passed through there because that is video output only. You will still need to connect your sound card to your speakers.

...Its VIVO, which means video input/video output, I already knew this. I also have an adaptor built for the VIVO port by ATI. I have my s-video and white/red audio cables plugged into it. ...my Headphones never left my soundcard. There has to be someway to pass though sound from the T200 ati chip, to the x-fi. I tried Directshow, but nothing I do works. ATI isn't going to make an adapter that doesn't do what it's made for.

That white/red cables are RCA left/right audio channels. They are designed to be plugged into a receiver or to the audio ports on a TV.

I guess I'm a bit confused as to what exactly it is that you are trying to do.

AIT tuenr cards go through the sound card anyways for All in wonder cards, it is a :"video" card, it does no audio processing.

I know....I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get the sound processed by my X-FI. The adapter I have was made to plug in yellow white and red, then plug into the VIVO port. Which means sound should be going somewhere......

I've never seen a dongle that comes with the ATI cards that has white and red (RCA Audio) ports on it. Not unless it has a pass-through in the form of a mini-jack that plugs into the input in your sound card. Or an internal audio pass-through cable that connects to a header on your sound card.

You need to purchase a RCA stereo to mini-jack converter and connect the audio from your PS2 to this adaptor. Then connect it to your sound card's aux input jack.

I didn't want to have two adaptors, which is why I went with this ati adaptor : \... The only picture I can find atm is Purple Box As you see you plug your rca to the adaptor, then plug it into the vivo port. No mini jack.

You bought this separately or it came with the X1900XT?

The purple dongle is designed only for use with the ATI Theater 550 and some of the other All-In-Wonder cards. Unless your Sapphire X1900XT is an all-in-wonder (TV Tuner built in) you got the wrong adapter.

The reason this purple dongle works with the Theater and AIW cards is they have special circuitry on board that will process the audio signal from the purple dongle. With your everyday ATI VIVO card (pretty much every Radeon card) the circuitry to process audio is not there - which is why you need to input the audio directly to your sound card.

...I see then I was misinformed by another source. I was told the T200 could process audio. I could probably try to get a refund. I could by a cheap RCA converter, and use the s-video cable that came with my x1900 : \.

edit:I know some of the older all in wonders came with the ATI T200 chipset, like my 8500 and 9600 aiw. Those seem to process audio fine, guess I'll have to dig one of those up and mess around.

Just about every ATI card with VIVO comes with the Rage Theatre 200 chip. The chip by itself has the capability to process audio right along with video, but the card has to have the accompanying circuitry to pass along that audio for it to work.

Sorry. :)
