audio over HDMI or Toslink?

If you're playing games, hdmi is far less of a headache for 5.1 than optical or coaxial spdif.
 
High Definition Audio (Lossless(Dolby TrueHD, DTS-MA) will not play via Toslink. The Lossy ones (DD, DTS) will play via Toslink. HDMI for the HD Stuff. Not a big deal if you don't need those.

Only a big deal if you're gaming, you want 5.1,and your motherboard or audio card doesn't support the right Dolby codec.

If ya have HDMI then use it, spdif should have been deprecated a decade ago at least. Hdmi audio is far less of a pain when it comes to dealing with multi channel pcm audio, e.g. All video games ever published .

i also ordered a few redmere HDMI cables... ive been using HDMI cables from when they just came out, figured I should upgrade those as well.
