Audio on the DFI Infinity

I know on Newegg they have the onboard sound listed as Realtek ALC650 6-Channel Codec, but then someone else thought that the Inifity had Soundstorm onboard audio...can someone please clarify? I'm trying to decide whether to buy the DFI Infinity or the Abit NF7-S....since I dont have a soundcard, nor do I care to buy one...the onboard sound is a factor

Yea but that goes out of my price range...NF7 or Infinity are $90-100, the lanparty runs $150.

The Infinity and the Lan Party (NF7-S too) have an ac97 based onboard sound chip as well as the soundstorm.

The onboard sound that hooks up directly to computer speakers isn't half bad.

To use soundstorm you connect the spdif to a digital capable home theater receiver and blammo, sweet soundstorm action.

so if u have a regulare computer speaker set-up, then u cant take advantage of sound storm?

i believe you are confused.. soundstorm is the apu and u dont have to hook it up via the spdif to use soundstorm.. granted, it sounds better through the spdif connector but that doesnt change the apu on the board any

actually Soundstorm is not a piece of hardware, it is a certification that Nvidia grants to those APU units that meet or exceed its minimum requirements (6 channel, digital/analog, correct connector jacks etc).

if interested, I can post the NV SS certification requirements =)

nah thats not necessary :p but actually you are right.. the nf7-s is a certified soundstorm board whereas the a7n8x isnt (at least the older versions.. not sure about the new) but they had the same apu.. but generally speaking, soundstorm is associated with the good apu on the nforce2 boards :)

the infinity uses the digital coax.. most others use the optical.

But is the sound through the pc speakers any better with Soundstorm. Will the audio from an NF7-S sound better than the DFI Infinity through regular speakers...

they sound pretty much the same from everyone that ive seen in the dfi forum that came from an NF7. With digital there's truly no difference, with analog...i think you will find some say yet, NF7 is better, others will say no Infinityt is better at audio.

either way, i;ve never heard any of the NF7 users say its worse than the Infinity to the point of making any comment about it ;)
