Audio interference driving me nuts

There is this annoying hiss in my headphones that is being generated by the computer. I can tell because the hiss/static changes in sequence with the HD activity light.

I'm using the onboard Realtek sound on my Abit AV8 Pro. I just installed the newest drivers for fun, nothing. I also went into the sound panel and muted/disabled every single sound input and ouput possible. Even with the volume at zero there is still hiss. I can enabled the +2 db mic boost and increase the static, but not lower it. I moved my headphone cables around so they were far, far away from any other cables and even tried using another pair. My case is well organized in a huge aluminum Lian-Li so I made sure only the neccessary SATA cables and power were passing over the motherboard.

Short of buying a new soundcard I dont have any more ideas on how to reduce the noise.. blast.
 
I had this hiss until I disabled CD Audio.

Interference can be picked up in many places, sometimes due to a poor mainboard layout.
 
Also open-ended connections will cause a lot of interference. Try disconnecting all unessential audio related cables and cleaning the contacts on the ones you have with rubbing alcohol.
