I figured out how to get Atmos ceiling speakers to work in Windows 10. The fact that there's no option for 5.1.2 speaker selection on speaker configuration is irrelevant. I just had to set my Pioneer Elite VSX-90 to mode "Stream Direct", or else it was stuck in PCM mode and not playing from ceiling speakers in the 5.1.2 Dolby Test Sound video, no matter which player or audio settings I selected.

Windows appears to support only traditional audio modes such as stereo, 4.0, 5.1, 7.1 and even some odd stuff like 3.1 (I saw that when I connected my Denon AVR-3806 to my onboard Intel HDMI). I've researched and it looks like 7.1 is the limit for Windows, even if your devices have HDMI 2.0 end-to-end; currently, you would need specialized software to discretely drive more than 8 speakers in PCM mode, other than that, bitstream it is.
