Audio blips while typing.

SP2 initially messed up my computer a bit, so I did a system restore. It seems, after this I'm getting a good deal of distortion with my Audigy when typing, just blips and stuff. This sounded like an IRQ conflict to me, so I shifted that PCI slot's IRQ around in the BIOS with no avail. When I had previously updated my BIOS, I thought it lowed the AGP latency, so I put that up, and this also did nothing. Any ideas on getting rid of the noise when typing? I've only noticed them while playing audio using Winamp 5, system being used is in my sig.

Hrm. In the Accessibility options there is a control to set the system to make a sound when you hit keys. I'm wondering if something made SP2 turn that on for you. It's worth a look, ne?

couldn't find anything like that turned on. I still think its a result of either system-restoring away SP2, changing my sound drivers, or updating the BIOS, all of which i've done recently. anybody ever had something like this happen?

Well, as far as IRQs go, Windows should be reassigning most of them. That's why it's often best to just simply set the PNP OS to yes rather than NO so that it won't cause issues while reassigning (which is rare I admit.) So if you want to change them, you need to change them in the device manager since the BIOS settings won't get used much probably. Windows just loves to try to take over things (my favorite thing is how it must conflict a USB keyboard with something in the installer because it will completely cut it off on me most of the time even though I have USB legacy support turned on...)

Anyway, you said this issue was specific to Winamp 5. That's pretty specific alright. At first it threw me off because of the key typing thing, but, I'm wondering if it might be something like the Winamp 5 settings. Check the audio output plugin and see what it's set to. Perhaps even reset to defaults if it has been changed. Also, try checking other players like Foobar2000 and see if they do the same thing. In fact, even try *shivers* WMP just for the sake of testing. If it's completely specific to winamp 5, then it's definitely something it does that the others are not.
